Steel castings with a high chemical resistance form the group of stainless steels. The reason for the high chemical capacity to withstand stresses of casts made of stainless steel castings is the exceptionally high share of chromium within the alloy. This share is between 12 to 30 per cent. At stainless steels we are therefore talking about high-alloy materials. Further alloy components can be copper, molybdenum, nickel or niobium.
They are divided into austenitic, ferritic-austenitic, ferritic-carbidic and martensitic steels.
Corrosion resistant steel castings are defined by DIN EN 10283.
